For the past number of years, our church has provided and delivered a meal to Hope Cottage, a drop-in shelter in Halifax. Every two months, volunteers donate supplies or prepare a meal of sweet & sour meatballs which is a favourite with the patrons. To help with preparing the next meal, please call the CHWUC office.
If you haven’t made the meatballs before here is the recipe:
Sweet And Sour Meat Balls
INGREDIENTS
2 pounds ground beef
grated onion
salt and pepper
1 can pieces and stem mushrooms
1 can pineapple chunks ( save juice)
1 ½ cups brown sugar
¾ cup vinegar
1 tbsp. dry mustard
1-2 tbsp. corn starch
1 cup ketchup
¾ cup liquid ( pineapple juice- add water if necessary)
DIRECTIONS
Make little balls with beef, onion and salt/pepper
Mix the rest of the ingredients together and pour over meatballs
Bake at 350 degrees for approximately hour.
